Vanitas

Vanitas is a jazzy mystery game where you play a constantly evolving dice game with the strange passengers on a train to nowhere.

accomplishments

  • Rising Tide Competition Winner. We submitted a trailer to the Blue Ocean Rising Tide competition and placed 10th out of thousands of submissions.
  • my contributions

    Scalable Systems. Designed and engineered the scalable systems behind Vanitas' dice game. This included:

  • creating modular classes and components to be able to rapidly prototype new mechanics and 'encounters'
  • creating usable and versatile narrative components that myself and the rest of the team could use to craft interactive spaces
  • Designed Folk Game. Designed and tuned the folk dice game, including:

  • rapid prototyping and play-testing, both digital and physical,
  • designing enemy AI that demonstrated high level play,
  • and balancing progression by extrapolating die value and synergy

    The demo that is Vanitas in its current form was developed over the course of only 3 months, working part time. While this project has been tabled for our team to work on our graduate thesis, we will likely return to the project in the future.
